Get Fit for Fall!

Now that the kids are heading back to school, it is time for us Moms to get fit for fall.

Let me start by reminding you that we are living in uncertain times with the COVID-19 strains, do what you can to boost your immune system. Decide whether you and your family will get vaccinated and do so quickly. Also, stay hydrated and do your best to get proper rest. To ensure my family drinks the recommended daily ounces of water, we receive water delivery service from Ready Refresh. I also purchased a gallon water bottle from HydroMate. It is challenging to drink from 8 am – 8 pm, so some days I start at 10:00 am or even noon. If you are drinking at least 64 oz each day, you should be fine.

Menopause and high blood pressure increase your risk for heart disease. The American Heart Association (AHA) offers a wealth of information on heart disease and precisely how it affects women during the stages of menopause. My kids and I were out grocery shopping yesterday when a hot flash hit me all of a sudden. My face was red, and my forehead was gleaming from sweat. It was the first time they saw me go from cool, calm, and collected to hot and bothered. As we were about to check out, my daughter grabbed a bottled water from the cooler case. I could not wait to get outside for fresh air and to drink the water.

We all joke about the 15 ‘pandemic pounds’ we gained during quarantine, but it is no joke. Last year while scrolling down my Instagram feed, I saw a sponsored video by Club Pilates. So, I went online and signed up for a FREE introduction class at the beginning of this year. I loved it so much that I started attending once or twice a week, and I even took a few virtual courses. No matter what your level of exercise is, Club Pilates has a class for you. I am busy with work, my summer class, and preparing my family for our move, but I am determined to book at least four classes between now and August 31. Visit their website and sign up. Don’t forget to bring your water bottle, non-skid socks, and a sweat towel if you do.

Next, I want to encourage you all to get outside and walk while the weather is nice. When you can walk with your spouse, children, a friend, or neighbor, Bicycling is another great way to exercise, and the whole family can ride together. You can also lay on your floor, lift and bicycle your legs in the air as a form of exercise. It has been scorching here in Maryland, so the best time to walk is early in the morning or later in the evening. Surprisingly, I have found that I sleep better when I walk or exercise after 6:30 pm, which brings me to the next area, sex.

Finally, have more sex. Sex is a form of exercise and a great stress reliever. So, go for it, and read the articles below about how many calories you can burn during sex, as well as some of the benefits of partaking in the act.

Taking care of yourself should be a priority. Please do not put off or feel guilty about doing the things you need to do to help you maintain or become physically fit. Remember, before you start pulling out the fall and Halloween decorations, set up a Fitness Plan for yourself and stick to it. Get Fit for Fall!
